We have to start somewhere

Whilst I have always loved food and cooking, it wasn't until the start of 2014 that I began to focus on developing healthy eating recipes. It was at this stage that, having turned thirty and carrying more than a little excess weight from a winter of over indulgence, I made a decision to change the way I looked. I would be lying if I said that at various stages of my life I hadn't dreamt of achieving a physique similar to those you see on the covers of various men's fitness magazines, and I knew that it was now or never to turn that dream into reality.

And so, armed with Nick Mitchell's 12 Week Body Plan, I set to work on achieving my goal. The knowledge and information from Nick's plan gave me everything I needed to succeed in the gym, but, whilst that was a big contributing factor to the results I achieved, it was my approach out of the gym that mattered the most. The food I ate played an integral part in my body transformation, after all if you are not eating correctly then the work you are doing in the gym isn't going to make a huge amount of difference.

It's a beginning, but not the end

During the early stages of the process I was very strict with my approach to food, eating only plain vegetables with either meat or fish, and cutting out anything that wasn't necessary to my body composition goal. It didn't take long for me to realise that I wasn't enjoying my food anymore, and that this wasn't an approach that I would be able to maintain. I loved food too much. So I set about creating a series of recipes that enable me to stick to my goals, but also to enjoy every meal that I ate. For me it was about creating a sustainable lifestyle that I could happily maintain for years to come.

I also wanted to prove that you can get into fantastic shape without sacrificing all of your favourite meals, and, above all else, by eating real food. We eat every day and I believe we should look forward to all of our meals, knowing that they will satisfy our taste buds and give our bodies the nutrition that they need. Two years later and I am still enjoying every meal I eat, and the decision to change my physique continues to be a life changing one in so many different ways.
